Science week $5000 grants

A great celebration of all things science is Australia’s National Science Week which happens in August each year and if you would like to host an event there are $5000 grants available right now and up until April 9. Then, if you are a school teacher you can apply to the Australian Science Teachers Association for up to $500  to run something in your school but note applications for this close Easter Friday 1 April.

If you are preparing for Easter holidays with the family, there are some really great science resources to get involved with. Bush Heritage Australia have the Bush Buddies Kids Club which email out resources prior to each school holidays and it is packed with great ideas and activities for the young and young at heart. My favourite is the origami endangered Golden-shouldered parrot! There are also tonnes of great Easter related STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) acitivites on the internet.

There are many ways to get involved in the science that surrounds you. It could be attending a community event, learning about ways to improve your personal sustainability, or getting involved in citizen science programs (there are literally thousands of them).

Another amazing science event is the World Science Festival which happened in Brisbane last weekend but there are heaps of resources live on their website including interviews and panel discussions you can watch for free. The festival is also heading to the regions throughout this year including a 2 day festival in Gladstone on August 29 and 30.
