Pisonia grandis

Cluster of Pisonia flowers

Pisonia grandis are large-leafed woody shrubs or trees found almost exclusively on Indo-Pacific islands broadly between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn. They are known to exist as far away as islands of the Seychelles, Hawaii and eastern Polynesia.

In Australia there is only approximately 190 Ha of Pisonia forests growing. Around 80% of Australia’s Pisonia forests grow on the Capricorn Cays off the coast of our region, within the Great Barrier Reef.
