Endangered under Queensland’s Nature Conservation Act 1992 and Australia’s Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999

Found in tropical and sub-tropical waters around the world, these carnivorous turtles can travel long distances from their nesting sites.

Loggerheads are commonly found in the Capricorn-Bunker group of islands, with between 10 and 150 females nesting there each year. Find out more about what they eat, where they live and why they’re special here.
