Methodology by which to set water quality targets agreed
Currently methodology for target setting commitments are met by the
‘Central Queensland water quality target setting and
monitoring process’ produced by the FBA in May 2004 and the
CQSS2. We have also provided input into the publication of
‘ReefPlan’s’ Module 19 ‘Integrating the
Reef Water Quality Protection Plan into Regional NRM
Planning’ which is consistent with the documents produced by
the FBA. Attachment 3 of Module 19 provides a six step approach to
target setting which FBA utilises and a specific example of our
approach.

Implementation of agreed methodology for water quality target
setting
FBA has been working tirelessly to implement the agreed
methodology. To provide an update on progress of implementation a
document titled
'Progress on the water quality target setting and monitoring
process'
was released in 2006. The purpose of this paper was to
provide an
- Update on our approach to setting water quality targets
- Update on progress towards quantifying targets for water quality
- Timeline for setting water quality targets

Report on
Interim Water Quality Target
Water quality targets refined
FBA is committed to refining interim water quality targets. As new
research comes to light supporting management actions that deliver
better water quality outcomes for the dollars invested we modify
our incentive scheme to mirror these research findings and thus
accelerate adoption of particular management actions. In the same
way, methods for monitoring, modelling, interpreting and reporting
water quality improvement are also refined and adapted depending
upon community and investor requirements. Estimates of water
quality improvement must be refined accordingly when FBA’s
on-ground investment scheme is updated and on-ground action alters
due to these updates. Although work is underway to aid in the
refinement of water quality targets refined water quality targets
are not due for some years yet. The
'Progress on the water quality target setting and monitoring
process'
paper provides insight into our progress on activities for
refining water quality targets.
Enhancement of biophysical data sets and water quality models for
target setting
FBA provides input into certain activities and leads others to
enhance biophysical data sets and water quality models for target
setting. Some of these activities are outlined below:
