Priority Neighbourhood Catchments Water Quality Monitoring Program

Landholders hold the key to FBA's successful flood based sediment and nutrient monitoring program. Dedicated individuals in strategic locations dust off their drizabones and collect up to six samples from each rainfall event that causes flooding. This monitoring is conducted at the Neighbourhood Catchment scale (~300km 2 to 2000km 2 catchment or group of small catchments). The objective of this monitoring is to:

A local landholder monitors a flood event in Carnarvon Creek Neighbourhood Catchment

  • Form the basis of FBA's Monitoring Evaluation Reporting and Review (MERR) water quality requirements
  • Refine water quality models used to aid in the setting of water quality targets
  • Collect baseline water quality data at a Neighbourhood Catchment scale; and
  • Engage and involve landholders and stakeholders able to bring about management change at the Neighbourhood Catchment scale

Water Quality Targets

FBA is working towards the setting and refining of water quality targets. FBA believes in setting SMART (Simple, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Timely) targets related directly to implemantation of on-ground actions. Water quality target setting activities include:

  1. Developing and implementing an agreed methodology by which to set water quality targets.
  2. Developing interim water quality targets and refining these targets.
  3. Enhancing biophysical data sets and water quality models for use in target setting.

Regional Water Quality Monitoring and Reporting

Most water quality data throughout our region isn't used outside of the project reports or compliance reports for which it was collected. FBA are working together with regional stakeholders to ensure access to available data is streamlined.
