Land Condition Remote Monitoring in the Fitzroy Basin

FBA have developed new capacity to measure and monitor land condition and ground cover across the Fitzroy Basin through a collaborative project between the Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries and CSIRO called Land Condition Remote Monitoring In The Fitzroy Basin .

This exciting work has been based around the use of almost 20 years of satellite imagery used to indicate annual changes in ground cover and resource condition across vast areas of the basin. The tools and products being produced from the project allow a quantum leap forward in our capacity to answer important questions about the condition of the landscape and how FBA can help managers to manage it.

Outcomes from the Land Condition Remote Monitoring Project have enabled the Fitzroy Basin and Sub-regional groups to make better informed decisions about the state of ground cover across the region.

The FBA together with the DPI&F now have the ability to produce ground cover and land condition maps and imagery for the Fitzroy Basin region and down to the property scale. These include:

  • Simple cover image
  • Mean cover
  • Trend over time
  • Mean and trend
  • Landtype condition maps
