Raglan Creek Fishways
The Fitzroy Basin Association in partnership with DPI&F’s
Northern Fish Community and Fishway Monitoring Team and the
Calliope Shire Council have worked together to overcome two
barriers to fish migration on Raglan Creek.
Road crossings at Gentle Anne and Raglan Station Road had
effectively restricted fish movement on one of the region’s
only perennially flowing creeks to flood events. The construction
of the two rock ramp raceway fishways has again opened fish access
to the many kilometres of fish habitat upstream of the road
crossings.

Removal of pondage banks on
'Gavial Plains'
In conjunction with the local landholder and FRCC, six pondage
banks are being removed from the lower Fitzroy River floodplain and
Serpintine Creek. Denis Franks together with his wife and
child run
Gavial Plains
station. He is removing six earthern banks scattered across the
property to improve fish passage, re-instate floodplain
connectivity and aid in the control of a lippia infestation.

Regional Fishway Prioritisation
FBA will host a regional fishway prioritisation workshop in 2007.
The outcome from this workshop will include a report on the
barriers to fish migration through the region along with a
prioritised list of these barriers for works to improve fish
movement.
Bajool Weir Fishway Project
Plans are underway for the construction of a fishway on the Bajool
Weir. Early investigation on the feasibility of this project looks
promising. The project is quite complex with many interested
parties including local landholders, Mainroads, DPI&F, NRW,
Fitzroy Shire Council, Traditional Owners, FRCC and FBA likely to
be involved to varying levels. There is a clear commitment from all
of these parties to see this project through including some
substantial in-kind support
