Rachel Bryan our Senior Healthy Waterways Officer says
“
As part of the FBA water quality team, I am contributing to
building a better understanding
of the water quality within our basin catchment
waterways.
My role entails a variety of activities relating to the Healthy
Waterway programme. Most of my time is spent
working with the Priority Neighbourhood Catchment Water Quality
Monitoring programme – PNCWQM in short.
I joined FBA after completing an Aquatic Resources Management
course at CQ University. My job gives me the opportunity to get out
from behind the desk and work outdoors with other people who have
an interest in our environment.
Before FBA, I worked in a number of different industries and have a
broad range of experience in science related industries including
regulatory type areas.
In the future, I’m looking forward to playing a bigger role
in the water quality event monitoring programme (PNCWQM ). Outside
of work, I enjoy gardening, bush walking and spending time at the
beach.”
Gina Mace our Grazing Land Management Field Officer says
“
I am the grazing land management officer wit
h FBA, and my role is responsible for providing regional
coordination and technical support for the delivery
of grazing land management projects. I grew up on a sheep and
cattle property in South West Qld so I know the pressures of land
management from the producers point of view. On any one day I could
be in the office, out on a property visit with field officers,
organising and running a meeting or workshop for either field
officers or landholders. My goal is to bridge the knowledge gap
between sustainable land management and productivity for the
landholders within the basin.
I joined FBA as they offered an appealing work environment and
package. The position itself was also a huge attraction as it
is very diverse. Everyone is really friendly and strong
relationships are made within the office and outside work
hours. I really enjoy working with the people who make up the
FBA team, and working as a community organisation that the local
community recognises and appreciates. I also get a lot of
satisfaction in knowing the results we are achieving across the
basin and the difference we are making to the productivity of the
graziers, and the health of our natural resources.
Outside of work, I enjoy heading home and helping out on the
property, polocrosse, and helping others.”
Sh
annon Van Nunen, our Coastal and Marine Field Officer
says "I joined FBA as I saw it as being a great place to work
because it had a good reputation
amongst the community, a diverse involvement in
NRM issue
s in our region and a great knowledge base from which I could
learn. I bring a positive an
d go get em’ attitude to FBA, coupled with excellent
communication skills and an ability to form lasting relationships
with all stakeholders involved with NRM within and outside of our
region. I also posses technical knowledge of NRM and the ability to
learn new skills quickly and well.
Outside of work, I volunteer for Camp Quality which I find very
rewarding. I love music, playing my guitar and singing. I keep fit
by playing squash and surfing and I also enjoy playing golf,
fishing and swimming. In my down time I like to watch movies, read,
be with family and friends, cook and learn new things."
Here's what some of our past employees think about us.
“Beginning FBA as a graduate I was unsure of what to expect.
However my past 3 years have been a great experience. FBA values
its staff and provides much support for training and development.
Working at FBA will present you with a variety of work, exposure to
some fantastic people, and allows you to see some of the incredible
landscapes throughout CQ”.
Rhys Kellow (Former Biodiversity Field Officer)
"I have had a great time whilst being employed by FBA, there is a
really relaxed but motivating atmosphere within the company and
this creates a very enjoyable working environment. The staff
network as well as the clients (predominately landholders) are
great to work with and I would now refer to many of them as
friends.
FBA was my first full time position out of University and I feel
that I virtually did my apprenticeship with them. I learnt so much
in my time there and the senior staff were always very keen to pass
on knowledge. Personal development was further promoted through the
regular provision of training and information sharing workshops.
The best part about working at FBA was being able to get out and
help landholders with their water quality issues, and at the same
time see some remote and very beautiful parts of Central
Queensland."
Nick Kirby (Former Healthy Waterways Field Officer)
"I am sorry to be leaving FBA and will really miss my work
mates/friends that I have made in the last 2.5 plus years.
It’s only the lure of new and exciting opportunities closer
to my family that have contributed to my decision in leaving. The
work that FBA is doing on the ground in Natural Resource Management
has been amazing to watch grow and gain momentum both with staff
and property owners. The enthusiasm, knowledge and skills of all
the staff are amazing and will continue to help FBA do bigger and
better things in the future. The support of the FBA Board and
Management in maintaining a work/life balance has been over and
beyond any workplace that I have worked for in the past and made my
decision to leave even harder. I would highly recommend working for
FBA."
