The international theme for World Wetlands Day 2009 is 'Upstream-Downstream - wetlands connect us all'.

This year it is hoped that World Wetlands Day will provide an opportunity for people to look at their own wetland and its interconnections with the environment around it - how wetlands benefit the surroundings and how activities throughout the river basin may affect their wetland.

document Emu Park Bushcare World Wetlands Day Community Planning Day & Get together
The Emu Park Bushcare Group held a well attended community planning day and get together (18 registered adults plus children) on Sunday, 4th February to celebrate World Wetlands Day. Activities included ground water monitoring, guided tours of the lagoon, weed id and management and the use of mapping to identify areas of remnant vegeation. The organisers would like to acknowledge local Emu Park businesses - butcher, baker and grocer - for supplies donated to the lunch time BBQ and morning tea. [pdf 49.8 kb]

document FBEC 'Fish for tomorrow?' Bus Tour
Murri people interested in the management & preservation of fish, creeks, rivers and wetlands visited sites where the natural balance has been disturbed. The tour visited Raglan Creek, Bajool Weir and the Fitzroy River Barrage. Murries and others shared their stories about the management of fish, creeks, rivers and wetlands. [pdf 142.5 kb]

Greening Australia Queensland and Capricorn Coast Landcare Envirolink are commemorating World Wetlands Day by taking a group of over 40 children to Rydges today. The day was originally planned for Friday, 2nd February but rainy weather caused a reschedule. [pdf 114.3 kb]

Healthy Waterways Rivers & Wetlands Program

Central Queensland ’s water quality assets are under pressure from poor ground cover, land clearing, water contaminants, invasive plants and animals, modification of riparian zones, floodplains and wetlands, stream bank erosion, waterway development, barriers to species movement and cost of changing management practices. FBA's Healthy Waterways program seeks to aid in reduction of pressure to these assets.
